Parenting With The Nervous System In Mind

Self-regulation and co-regulation for parents and children.

You will never look at yourself & at your children in the same way again.

An 8-week online program translating the latest research in neurobiology into simple and practical self-regulation and co-regulation tools, to empower you as a parent.
  • Are you a parent (or a teacher or a therapist) and you're feeling exhausted and at a loss with what to do when kids are "difficult"?

  • Do you feel that you're trying very hard to be a good parent but you have a hard time controlling your own responses to your kids (and you feel guilty afterwards)?

  • Do you know deep in your heart that your kids are not "bad", but you have a hard time identifying what is going on for them and how to support them with respect?

  • Do you feel that using punishments, rewards or "consequences" is damaging your relationship with your kids and lowering their self-esteem and you'd like a more nurturing (and efficient) approach?

If you've answered "yes" to the above questions, then this course is going to make a big difference in your life.

In this course, you'll find:

A digestible and practical explanation of how the nervous system works

Easy and efficient tools to self-regulate when you feel stressed, anxious and about to "lose it"

Tools to co-regulate with your children

How you can handle your own anger, shame and tears

How you can help your kids when they're feeling angry, agitated or when they're not listening

Topic 1

How does the nervous system work?

We'll start by understanding how things are working inside of ourselves.
Why we have the reactions we have: why do we go into 'fight or flight' or in a freeze (or fawn) response? And what are these responses anyway?
You'll realise that there is nothing wrong with you, that you're not crazy... and that it's not "just in your head"!

Topic 2

Stress responses, triggers and self-regulation

You'll learn to recognise the different physiological states in your mind and body, so you always know where you're at during the day and can take action to self-regulate when needed.
We'll explore what your nervous system reacts to: what are your physiological triggers. And start learning some simple and effective self-regulation tools.

Topic 3

How can we process our own anger in a healthy way?

We'll keep learning more self-regulation tools. We'll see that our smart mind-body naturally tries to keep us regulated and that "self-regulating" doesn't mean being relaxed all the time.
We'll learn about emotions: what you can do when you feel anxious or if you find yourself in a freeze response, how you can process anger in a healthy way and how you can support yourself through sadness and grief.

Topic 4

Our kids: "bad behaviour" or "stress response"?

After embodying more understanding of the nervous system in ourselves, we'll explore how things work inside of our children.
We'll shift our understanding of children's behaviour and explore what are their physiological triggers, how to interpret their reactions and increase their self-esteem.

Topic 5

Co-regulating with our children

We'll dive deeper in how to observe children to know where they're at so we can support them more efficiently. We'll learn to recognise when they become activated and how it affects our own responses to them.
We'll understand how co-regulation works and a simple and effective co-regulation process.

Topic 6

Cues of safety, cues of danger and regulation through movement

Here, we'll see what we can do to actively help our children's nervous system feel safer and come out of the fight or flight, freeze or fawn responses. You'll see that it's simpler than you think!
We'll understand the benefits of conscious movement and how we can co-regulate with children through movement.

Topic 7

About regulatory play and healthy expressions of anger

We'll see here how children naturally use play to self-regulate and heal from stress and trauma, and how we can support them in that.
We'll also see what we can do when our kids are feeling angry, offering them options for healthy expression of anger. We'll talk about how we can set healthy boundaries in those moments.

Topic 8

Supporting children's nervous system in the long term

Finally, we'll see what we can do to increase our kids' resiliency.
You'll receive simple and practical tools to support children who are impulsive and agitated and children who tend to go into freeze or shut down.
We'll talk about how emotions work in the mind and body and how we can support children with their big emotions (sadness, grief but also joy and excitement!).

Frequently asked questions

Will I be able to follow the course even if I can't make it live?

Yes, all the live sessions will be recorded and available on the platform within 24hours so that you can watch (or re-watch) them in your own time.

Will that course help me heal from past trauma?

This course is not meant to be and does not replace therapy. However, it will give you a fantastic understanding of how trauma affects your daily behaviours and feelings. This course will guide you on the first steps towards better nervous system regulation and I can't recommend it enough.

Is this course adapted for teachers, caregivers (daycare providers, baby-sitters), grand parents and therapists?

Yes. While this course is dedicated to parents, anyone who works or lives with children will highly benefit from this information, at a professional level, but also at a deep personal level.

How long will I have access to the course?

You'll have access to all the recordings and audio files for a year, so you can watch and re-watch them many times.
